AI pops up in almost every conversation about supply chain these days. Yet I find that it does not always fit where people use it. For some it’s a buzzword and for others it’s a genuine catalyst.

The reality is that AI won’t fix broken supply chains. AI will surely amplify what’s there.

If data is messy, processes are rigid, and AI is a bolt on then AI cranks up the chaos and associated waste! And the effort is likely doomed.

Yet if AI runs on clean & well governed data, digitized processes, and a culture of experimentation it can completely transform the supply chain from reactive to predictive. Examples include better inventory optimization, better informed vendor discussions, analytics and more.

AI is a multiplier and not a magic wand.

The groups getting results from AI don’t jump on every hot new tech out there. They define the objectives first, rebuild workflows, and help teams use smart capabilities instead of resisting them. Simply put, getting results with AI hinges on how well leaders link strategy to workflow and empower teams.

So, what’s your AI maturity and what’s blocking your next steps?
